I have always been fascinated with Americana and the American Roadside. Things that I find and what I can capture in the intimate towns across the country have been a passion in my life.
The historic views of people and their stories have fascinated me.
About Charles Blackburn –
Charles Blackburn is a nationally-recognized, award-winning photographer. His photographic style is a reflection of his personal vision, which started developing as he grew up in San Diego, California. The son of a career military father and Japanese mother, his early life experience was formed by the sun and surf of Southern California.
Although a photographer all his life, Charles began his professional journey studying Fine Art Photography at Phoenix College, under the direction of legendary photographer, Allen Dutton. Dutton was a preeminent influence, teaching Blackburn how to further visualize and sense the world around him. Charles also attended San Diego State University, before transferring to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. There, Charles studied and embraced commercial photography.
After graduation, Charles began his career working with many of LA’s top commercial photographers. It was here he began to understand the business of photography.
Recruited by Image Studios, a renowned commercial studio in the Midwest, Charles spent the next eight years creating a range of memorable imagery for regional and national clients. In 1993, Charles moved to Seattle, Washington where he opened his own commercial studio, and began serving clients ranging from local retail to national corporate accounts.
Photography is more than a vocation for Charles Blackburn. It is a passion, which he pursues through his personal photographic collections, as well as his professional work. His other passions include his family and coaching his local community youth baseball and football teams.
